The entire internet collaborated and couldn’t figure out what it was. I’m not sure; not even ninety percent of people know…

The entire internet came together, searching, guessing, debating… and still couldn’t quite figure out what this mysterious object was. Honestly? You’re not alone — nearly 90% of people have no idea either. And that’s exactly what makes it so fascinating.

Meet Clackers, also known as Lik-Klaks — an iconic toy that exploded in popularity during the 1970s and has since become a treasured gem among vintage toy collectors.

At first glance, they look simple: two colorful plastic balls connected by a sturdy string. But once you start swinging them up and down, something magical happens. The balls collide, creating a rapid, rhythmic clack-clack-clack sound that’s strangely satisfying, hypnotic, and unforgettable.

Clackers were invented in 1969 by the legendary toy company Wham-O, the same creative minds behind classics like the Hula Hoop, Frisbee, and Superball. Their success was instant and overwhelming — in just one year, over 10 million Clackers were sold worldwide. They became a must-have toy for kids everywhere.

However, with massive popularity came unexpected problems. Some versions of the plastic balls were prone to shattering, which led to injuries and safety concerns. Because of this, the toy was eventually banned in many places. Wham-O later released a safer version made from improved materials, but it never quite captured the same lightning-in-a-bottle magic of the original.
